ABOUT MARIE
I love interesting people who like to talk about interesting things.
My personal interests include television and popular culture. There's so much T.V. out there (and I really love re-watching things that are no longer being made, e.g. Law & Order) that I have no problem with spoilers because I like to be in the know.
All this time I've saved by reading spoilers is used to read as many new books as possible and listen to podcasts about almost every subject under the sun.
PROJECTS
THE GREAT GATSBY PRESENTATION
March 2016
I crafted this presentation when I was asked by a former professor to come in as a guest lecturer on The Great Gatsby. I was asked to stimulate conversation and enhance interest in Fitzgerald's work. Since the class was a history class, I made sure to include information about the time period in which Fitzgerald lived in and was writing The Great Gatsby.
POP CULTURE IN THE CLASSROOM
April 2015
This presentation was presented at a staff development meeting in partnership with a colleague. We explained how the use of pop culture artifacts in the classroom can help engage students who, at best, don't see a need for composition classes. We then explained and demonstrated a few of the assignments my colleague and I were already using in our own classes.
D MAGAZINE FATHER'S DAY BLOG POST
June 2015
This blog post was done as an assignment for an internship. It required research on the best places around Dallas that certain kinds of fathers might be interested in visiting. The write-up required excellent close attention to tone and proofreading and editing skills.
EDITOR FOR B. YOUNG'S TRILOGY OF CHILDREN'S BOOKS
June - August 2010
This project required editing and in-depth discussions with the client to clarify her vision. The collaboration led to more focused and fun narratives in each of the children's books. I am excited to see the final project when they're illustrated.

MASTER OF ARTS
TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY
2013 - 2015
This degree deepened my knowledge of literature and language, specifically American Literature, linguistics, English studies, grammar and composition, and research skills. With completion of 18 credit hours, I began teaching First-Year English Composition. Previous to teaching, I continued the tutoring position I'd earned as an undergrad, eventually achieving a leadership role in the writing tutoring center. In order to receive my degree, I completed an article-length professional paper, found below, and a Master's Comprehensive Exam. Throughout my graduate studies, I presented three different research endeavors at three different academic conferences.
BACHELOR OF ARTS
TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY
2010 - 2013
This degree provided a broad knowledge of literature, linguistics, English studies, grammar and composition. Based in literature, this program helped me build critical thinking and research skills that are serving me well in all aspects of my life. In the last year of my studies, I procured a student assistantship, working in the school's writing tutoring center, by demonstrating my writing skills in a class taught by the department chair.
